Number 6: The Newsroom
If you missed the first season of this HBO/Aaron Sorkin drama, then you missed out. The first episode was absolutely thrilling and the rest of the season matched that pace and dynamic. Although critics’ reviews were mixed, I felt like it was an accurate portrayal of our world today and how media is perceived and delivered. The first season tackled the killing of Osama Bin Laden, immigration issues, republication nominations, touched briefly on gun control, and many more topics. This season will focus on the 2012 election with hints of the Tea Party, Occupy Wall Street, and Trayvon Martin. I am excited to see how Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) will tackle these issues, and his general opinion on the topic. This season of the Newsroom will also deal with a wrongful termination lawsuit which will help to provide a critical story line for what goes on behind the cameras. Although details have been kept to a minimum on who will be the person that was fired; my money is on MacKenzie (Emily Mortimer). It has also been mentioned that we will see a lot more of Sloan (Olivia Munn) this season, and we also will deal with the love triangle between Maggie (Allison Pill), Jim (John Gallagher Jr.), and Don (Thomas Sadoski).
- The Newsroom premieres on Sunday, July 14th at 10/9c on HBO
